In one sentence

This site stores no account, asks for no email address and sets no cookie of its own; it counts page views without identifying anybody, and the only third party involved is the advertising described below.

What the server records

Every request is logged with the route, the response status, the timing, the user agent and the referrer. The visitor's IP address is hashed with a secret salt before it is written and the address itself is never stored. A coarse country code is derived from it at request time for aggregate traffic figures.

Why

To keep the site up, to detect abuse, to debug an incident, and to know which articles are read. Nothing here is used to build a profile of a reader, and none of it is sold or shared.

Advertising

This site displays advertising through Google AdSense. Google is an independent controller for that processing and may set cookies or use similar technologies under its own policies. It is the only third party this site loads anything from — fonts, scripts, stylesheets and images all come from this origin.

How long it is kept

Access logs rotate and are retained only as long as they are useful for security and reliability. Aggregate view counts, which identify nobody, are kept indefinitely.

Your requests

Write to [email protected] to ask what is held about you or to have it deleted. Because IP addresses are only ever stored as salted hashes, identifying your own rows generally means telling me when you visited.
